Lynch, IVF, and Us

Building Our Family'sFuture Together

Join us as we share our story about how our family came to be and our continued journey to grow our family through IVF and genetic testing. We are sharing about how Lynch Syndrome led us to IVF, more about Tyler's genetic cancer, our journey so far, and what's in the future for our family!

Our Story

A journey of hope, determination, and the dream of bringing children into our family

Our Journey Begins

After our personal experience with Tyler's cancer and his mother passing away from cancer caused by Lynch Syndrome, we made the prayerful decision to pursue IVF. Having Lynch Syndrome means there's a 50% chance of passing this genetic condition to our children, which significantly increases their risk of developing cancer.

The IVF Path

Through IVF with genetic testing, we can ensure our children will never have to face the fear and uncertainty that comes with Lynch Syndrome. We've completed three cycles, and have our miracle baby Archer, and while the journey has been challenging, our hope remains strong.

Looking toward our future

Our Journey Continues

After undergoing three IVF cycles, we got 15 embryos. 11 of those 15 carried Lynch Syndrome. We transferred the first of our four healthy embryos and were blessed with our beautiful baby boy. In 2025, we did three separate embryo transfers, had three positive pregnancies, but each ended in miscarriage.

Our Next Steps

After losing our last three babies to miscarriage, we've run out of healthy embryos. This was not part of our plan, we didn't expect to do more IVF cycles. The heartbreak has been real, but so is our determination. We're preparing for our next IVF cycle, hoping for another chance to add to our family.

DNA and genetic testing

What is Lynch Syndrome?

Lynch Syndrome is the most common hereditary colorectal cancer syndrome, affecting approximately 1 in 300 people. It's caused by mutations in genes responsible for DNA mismatch repair.

People with Lynch Syndrome have a significantly increased risk of developing several types of cancer, particularly colorectal and endometrial cancers, often at younger ages than the general population.

The MLH1 gene defect that I carry is one of the primary causes of Lynch Syndrome, making genetic testing and family planning crucial decisions for our future.

Genetic Condition

Lynch Syndrome is caused by mutations in DNA mismatch repair genes, including MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2.

Cancer Risk

Increases lifetime risk of colorectal cancer to 70-80% and endometrial cancer to 40-60% in women.

Hereditary

Each child of a person with Lynch Syndrome has a 50% chance of inheriting the condition.

Early Detection

Regular screening and genetic testing can help detect cancers early when they are most treatable.

How IVF Genetic Testing Helps

Embryo Screening

Test embryos before implantation to identify those free from Lynch Syndrome

Healthy Children

Ensure our children are born without the genetic predisposition to cancer

Understanding Our Lynch Syndrome

Beyond the medical facts: this is how Lynch Syndrome has shaped our lives and our family

Living in Fear

Every day we live with the constant fear that Tyler could get cancer again. The anxiety never truly goes away; it's always there, lurking in the background of our lives, affecting every decision we make about our future.

Four More Surgeries

Due to complications from Tyler's cancer removal surgery, he has had to endure four additional major open stomach surgeries to remove scar tissue and fix complications. The doctors say he will likely need more in his future.

A Life Lost Too Soon

Lynch Syndrome has already claimed a life in our family. Tyler's mother became terminal in 2019, and just four months after receiving the devastating news, she passed away: in her forties, far too young.

Why We Choose IVF

After everything we've been through: the cancer, the surgeries, the loss of Tyler's mother, we know firsthand the devastating impact Lynch Syndrome has on a family. The constant medical surveillance, the fear, the pain, the heartbreak.

Knowing that there is a possibility to take this burden away from our children has led us to seek out IVF with genetic testing. We want to give our children something we couldn't have: a life free from the shadow of Lynch Syndrome. A life where they don't have to live in constant fear. A life where they can simply be healthy and happy.
